Have a Disney Movie Summer at Home!

Image from Disney+

We all know Disney+ is full of great content for families, and with so many families having to cancel vacation plans it can also be the perfect place to find movies that make you feel like you're getting away from it all.  Here are five great choices depending on what kind of "vacation" you want to plan!

A Trip to the Islands - Disney's Moana

Moana - Image from Walt Disney Studios

Moana has it all - great music, a tropical locale, adventure on the high seas - it's simply one of my favorite Disney movies of all time.  Coincidentally, Hawaii is one of our favorite travel destinations in our house so whenever we're missing the island feeling, Moana can help fill the void.  Complete your Moana movie night with breakfast for dinner featuring this Tonga Toast recipe from Disney's Polynesian Village Resort and these free coloring pages!

Cool Off on Hot Days - Disney's Frozen 2

We just can't "let it go" when it comes to these two royal sisters, can we?  When you're feeling like the temperature is getting too hot to bear outside, plan to cool off with a trip to the fjords.  If the ice princess can't cool you off, who can?  The songs from this movie are spectacular and you can grab some free activities to enjoy with your movie too!

Get a Real Look Under the Sea - Disneynature's Dolphin Reef

Dolphin Reef - Image from Disney+

Disney+ has so much more than cartoons for kids. There are so many good documentaries that aren't boring for the kids - I promise!  In April, Disneynature released two new documentary movies to Disney+ and Dolphin Reef was one of our favorites EVER.  In the story, you follow a pod of dolphins on a journey under the sea.  Not only do you learn about dolphins, but you see and learn about turtles, coral reefs, fish, whales, and much more.  You can turn this fun movie into an even bigger learning experience with this educational pack from Disneynature.  It features activities AND detailed information about the Dolphin Reef journey.

Go Wild! - Disney's The Lion King

Summer is a time for adventure and adventure means exploring new places.  Take a look at the wild and untamed lands of Africa in Disney's The Lion King.  Featuring another great soundtrack, you'll be singing through the Pride Lands with Simba, Pumba, Timon, and more.  While both the animated and "live action" versions of this movie are available on Disney+, I recommend watching the 2019 re-make to truly feel transported to Africa as you watch.  Find an activity pack to have even more wild animal fun!

Take a Road Trip - Disney / Pixar's Toy Story 4

What could be better than spending summer with Woody, Buzz, and the whole Toy Story gang, right?  In Toy Story 4, Bonnie and her family take a road trip and that means our favorite toys are off on a fun new adventure.  While Toy Story 4 wasn't my favorite of the franchise (read my review here), it does a great job of catching that summer feeling - vacation, carnivals, and friends.

There's no better way to have a "Safer at Home" summer staycation than tuning into your favorite movies on Disney+.  Stay tuned for the latest updates as more great content releases!
