There may be 104 days of summer vacation, but one things for sure - Phineas and Ferb know how to pack a lot of adventure into those days!  This time around, we find Candace on another planet far from Earth.  Will her brothers be able to save her?  And does she even want to be saved?  I mean, a planet without pesky little brothers who get away with everything may not be so bad. . .right?

Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against The Universe Review

I should start out by saying that I'm not a Phineas and Ferb regular.  My boys have watched it a handful of times, but really have never been drawn in.  I had heard such good things about the movie though that I gathered my youngest and we snuggled in a for a family movie night.  Right off the bat, the catchy songs drew us in and it wasn't long before the story had us hooked as well.

Candace finds herself abducted by aliens and arriving on a far off planet.  Things look really bad for her, until she meets the leader who tells Candace something she has always wanted to hear - you're special.  Feeling validated and appreciated on the far off planet, Candace begins settling into her new surroundings.  When her brothers figure out what has happened, they race to space to save her only to find that she doesn't want to be "saved" at all.  But things aren't what they seem and this adventure will require everyone working together to once again save the universe.

There's a lot for families to enjoy about this movie.  First the songs.  There are so many of them and darn if they aren't all super catchy.  My personal favorite song, Adulting, which comes about halfway though the film.  My 5 year old ROLLED watching this.  Just take a look.

Families can also trust Phineas and Ferb to deliver a good takeaway message as well.  The devotion to family throughout the movie is obvious and heartfelt.  Siblings don't always get along - and Phineas, Ferb, and Candace definitely show us that - but, they are family at the end of the day and are always there for each other.

"And the best thing about family is you know they're always there for you." ~ Phineas and Ferb

There's also an important message for kids (and some of us adults too) about self-esteem and a positive self-image.  Candace's weakness in the movie is that she is looking for someone else to value her instead of valuing herself.  In fact, she is so blinded by this need to feel special and appreciated, that she ends up in a dangerous situation.

"We just wish you could see yourself the way we see you." ~ Phineas and Ferb

This movie is definitely going to be a favorite for families to enjoy together!  No worries if you're new to Phineas and Ferb like I am - you'll quickly become a fan and won't feel left behind at all.  Enjoy the adventure!
