Oakes Fegley and Laura Marano join and all-star cast in The War with Grandpa - Image from 101 Studios |
It's "old school" vs. "new school" in The War with Grandpa and I had the pleasure to join other family entertainment writers in sitting down with Oakes Fegley (Peter) and Laura Marano (Mia) in this new family comedy heading to theaters on October 9th. If you don't recognize the names, you'll definitely recognize the faces as Marano starred in Disney's Austin and Ally and Fegley starred in previous movies including Pete's Dragon. In a movie full of pranks and humor, was the set just as fun? We dive into this and more in our interview!
Fegley and Marano had the chance to work with screen legends like Robert DeNiro, Christopher Walken, Jane Seymour, Uma Thurman, and Cheech Marin. While they certainly learned a lot through the examples set by these seasoned actors, both of our young stars shared that none of their veteran counterparts treated them any different. Everyone had a job to do and treated each other as professionals. How cool is that? It's that kind of attitude that led to a fun set, but a set that also saved the pranks for in the movie. Fegley shared that his favorite prank scene in the movie was when Peter's grandfather messes with his furniture.
Through it all, both Fegley and Marano see the big takeaway messages from the film to be all about the importance of family and being there for each other. Sometimes families get into disagreements because of an fear or unwillingness to talk about what's on their mind and this movie shows us just how important it is to communicate with those you love and live with. Catch the rest of the interview below for more about bringing these characters to life!
