Family filmgoers who have been missing movie theaters have reason to rejoice! The new family comedy, The War With Grandpa, heads to theaters on October 9th and it is well with the visit to enjoy with your entire family - young and old. I'm so excited to share with you a review of The War With Grandpa by sharing 5 reasons you should see it.
5 Reasons to See The War With Grandpa
An All-Star Cast - With names like Robert DeNiro, Uma Thurman, Christopher Walken, Jane Seymour, Cheech Marin, and Rob Riggle alongside young talent like Oakes Fegley and Laura Marano, moviegoers will be in awe of that talent in front of them. The chemistry on screen is pure magic - particularly among the "boomer" squad of DeNiro, Walken, Seymour, and Marin. I mean, once you get a look at Walken's grandpa cave, you're going to want one!Laughs, laughs, and more laughs - This movie packs the laughs from the beginning all the way to the end. Both Peter and Grandpa Ed pull out all of the stops coming up with creative pranks to try and get the other to give in. Fegely shared that his favorite prank was when Grandpa Ed removes the screws from Peter's bedroom furniture, but the scene that has EVERYONE talking is. . .
The Dodgeball Scene - Ever imagine taking on your grandparent and their friends in a game of trampoline dodgeball? Yeah, it sounds a little crazy. . .and it looks even crazier on screen! Watching the battle between "old school" and "new school" come to life on the dodgeball court was hysterical. Find out what Seymour and Marin thought about filming that scene here!
"Real" Family Moments - While the idea of a grandfather and grandson having an all out prank war may not seem like it's the most likely to happen, there are plenty of other moments in the movie that are a little more subtle to viewers as family dynamics play out and are put on full display. Marano's character, teenage daughter Mia, is struggling with her parents as she is starting to date and push the limits of what she's allowed to do. Also, the relationship between Riggle's character and his father-in-law, DeNiro, takes a closer look at the common theme that nobody is good enough for daddy's little girl.
Plenty of Heart - For all the laughs along the way, there are many touching moments in the film that show the power of family. DeNiro misses his recently deceased wife and watching him mourn is one of the more poignant moments in the movie. Peter and Grandpa Ed also have several heart-to-hearts throughout the movie which remind us that at the end of the day, we all just want to be heard, know that we are loved, and feel valued by those that we cherish the most.

The War With Grandpa Final Thoughts
This movie was one of the best family comedies that we've seen in a while. It was one that even my sometimes hard-to-impress husband enjoyed for our movie night! I can't wait to see what adventures may be down the road with these characters too, as the Peart family hinted in their interview that a sequel may be in the works. With so much humor and heart packed into the film along with the amazing star-power, viewers won't be disappointed!

About The War With Grandpa (From 101 Studios)
Sixth-grader Peter (Oakes Fegley) is pretty much your average kid - he likes gaming, hanging with his friends and his beloved pair of Air Jordans. But when his recently widowed grandfather Ed (Robert De Niro) moves in with Peter's family, the boy is forced to give up his most prized possession of all, his bedroom. Unwilling to let such an injustice stand, Peter devises a series of increasingly elaborate pranks to drive out the interloper, but Grandpa Ed won't go without a fight. Soon, the friendly combatants are engaged in an all-out war with side-splitting consequences.
Based on the award-winning book by Robert Kimmel Smith, The War with Grandpa is a hilarious family comedy featuring an all-star supporting cast: Christopher Walken, Uma Thurman, Rob Riggle, Cheech Marin, Laura Marano, and Jane Seymour.
