Our favorite family movies from 2020! |
We can all agree that 2020 was a dumpster fire on a lot of fronts. While the movie experience was certainly different, the year produced some high quality family movies. I asked my group of critics (aka my family!) to tell me their top 3 family movies of the year. Click the links throughout for more reviews, interviews, printables, and recipes! Do you agree with our choices? Leave me your thoughts in the comments!

Caleb's Favorite Movie - We Can Be Heroes (Image from Netflix) |
Caleb (5 Years Old) - At the ripe old age of 5, Caleb tends to remember what he saw most recently as his favorite, but I think while this one is one of the newest releases, it will stand the test of time for him. His favorite movie of the year is. . .We Can Be Heroes! We Can Be Heroes released to Netflix on Christmas Day and wrapped up a year where we saw Netflix continue to crank out great family entertainment - and in a year where we needed it most! Don't miss these great quotes from We Can Be Heroes as well. His runner-up movies were Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs and Sonic The Hedgehog.

Brody's Favorite Movie - The War With Grandpa (Image from 101 Studios) |
Brody (8 Years Old) - Brody's favorite movie of the year actually ended up being a big hit for everyone in our household - The War With Grandpa! Starring Robert DeNiro, Rob Riggle, Uma Thurman, Cheech Marin, Christopher Walken, Jane Seymour, and more, this all-star cast led the family comedy of the year in my opinion about a grandfather who moves into his daughter's house and into his grandson's bedroom. Launching a "war" between the two, grandfather and grandson engage in a hilarious prank war that will leave you laughing all the way! I have a TON of coverage from The War With Grandpa including press interviews, review, DVD information, recipes, and printables. You can find all of my coverage here. Brody's runner-up films were The Christmas Chronicles 2 and Wolfwalkers!

Dan's Favorite Movie - The One and Only Ivan (Image from Disney+) |
Dan - My husband may be the toughest one in our house to please when it comes to family movies. He doesn't get into the animated movies very much, but does enjoy a well done film the whole family can enjoy. I'm not surprised that I accurately predicted his top 3, but I did have them in the wrong order! His favorite family movie of 2020 was Disney's The One and Only Ivan. This was a direct to Disney+ release starring Bryan Cranston and the voice talents of Sam Rockwell, Angelina Jolie, and Danny DeVito to name just a few. It's a touching story of Ivan the gorilla who works in the circus but through friendship and love longs to get back to life beyond the circus walls. His runner up films were The Call of the Wild and The War With Grandpa.

Kristi's Runner-Up - Onward (Image from Disney/Pixar) |
Kristi - Taking a page out of my son's book, I have to agree that my favorite family movie from 2020 was The War With Grandpa. It is a great family comedy that really has something for everyone - kids will enjoy the pranks and physical humor while parents will enjoy all of that, plus seeing some incredible movie talent having FUN together on screen. My runner-up movie selections both find themselves in the Disney/Pixar realm - Onward and Soul. If you haven't a chance to see these movies yet, don't delay! You can find them both streaming now on Disney+ and I have fun activity sheets and favorite quotes posts for both as well. Onward was actually the last film we saw in movie theaters, just a week before the world shutdown.
So that's a wrap on 2020! I was so excited to launch this site as a spinoff from my original site so I could focus more on family entertainment here. Thanks for following and please stay tuned in 2021 - there is much more coming in the year ahead and I can't wait to share it with you!
