Marvel fans rejoice! New Marvel content is once again out and it's home Disney+.  I sat down on release day and watched the first episode.  It was a delightful escape and Marvel fans have been excited about this for months, so what is WandaVision?

WandaVision is Throwback Fun

The first episode is done in black and white and harkens back to the TV era of I Love Lucy and Dick Van Dyke.  It's even filmed in front of a live studio audience to get that throwback feel.  Wanda and Vision are the perfect 1950s married couple - cute, quaint, and full of fun quips!  Lines like "Oh! This is going to be a gas!" make you feel like you've really taken a step back in time.  There's a cute little misunderstanding in the episode that makes me think of all the escapades that Lucy and Ricky use to get into back in the day.  And you'll even find cute "period" commercials from such greats - like Stark Industries!  In production notes from Disney+, director Matt Shakman says“It’s a mash-up of classic sitcoms and large-scale Marvel action.  I think it’s really lovely that the first streaming show from Marvel Studios—producer of huge blockbuster films—is really a love letter to the history of television.”

WandaVision is Quirky

"I don't have a skeleton, sir." Vision is an unconventional man living in a very conventional world as this quote to his boss points out.  There are points in the show that I really wasn't sure what I was watching - but I was smiling from ear to ear the whole time!  Their superpowers provide numerous laughs and Vision singing "Yakety Yak" was almost too much for me to handle.  I think Paul Bettany, who portrays Vision, says it best when he describes WandaVision as “. . .a beautiful little puzzle box that you begin to open. As mad and chaotic as the trailer looks, everything has a reason. There are layers upon layers.”

WandaVision is Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany at their BEST!

These two truly shine in their characters.  I'll be the first to admit, I am not an expert in the Marvel universe.  I've watched The Avengers movies and some other Marvel selections, but quite honestly know very little about Wanda and Vision.  While I enjoyed them in the other Marvel movies I've watched, I don't think I could love them any more than in this show.  They are funny, personable, relatable, and everything you want to watch on TV.

WandaVision is Must-See TV

I'm so happy I squeezed in a viewing after the kids went to bed on release night as this was the perfect way to end my week.  I also have to take a minute and celebrate the music of WandaVision.  As I launched into episode two I noticed the theme song was completely different.  Come to find out, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who's musical talents are well known from movies like Frozen and Frozen 2, wrote unique theme songs to each episode to capture the decade and time period they were in.  The theme songs and original score only add to the delightful nature of this show.  I can't wait for more episodes and look forward to following along with the adventures of Wanda and Vision as they traverse the decades together!

But is WandaVision OK for your kids? Find out more here!
