Ever wondered what the early years of SpongeBob Squarepants and his Bikini Bottom pals was like?  In the new series, Kamp Koral, coming to Paramount+ on March 4th, fans get to go under-the-sea to get a sneak peek at these friends as young sea creatures at summer camp.  Will you enjoy Kamp Koral on Paramount+?  The question is actually more simple - do you enjoy SpongeBob?

Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years Review

I watched Kamp Koral with my son after we watched The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.  If you see the movie ahead of the new series, you get a bit of a preview of what is to come in the series.  There is a scene in the movie where SpongeBob's friends share memories of the first time they met him.  This is the basic premise of the series - a look back at SpongeBob and his friends at summer camp, Kamp Koral, when they were just kids themselves.  The 23 minute episodes are designed with kids in mind - short attention spans, quick action, and funny moments.

My son enjoyed the series and I have to say it held his (and my) attention even better than the movie.  We liked the background story and enjoyed the animated tales.  The experiences of Kamp Koral will also relate to young viewers from their own camp and / or scout experiences.  The first episode, for example, has SpongeBob working to earn his jelly fishing award - like a scout may earn a merit badge for learning a new skill.  The show presents a look at how the dynamic between these characters began to take shape.  If you like SpongeBob Squarepants, you'll enjoy this spin-off series - it's the same kind of humor with a new storyline.  Do the stories resonate with adults and kids alike?  Not really.  But that's part of the SpongeBob experience.  My kids have always enjoyed the show and the characters while adults sometimes wonder what exactly they're watching.  But at the end of the day, the animation is beautiful, the characters are familiar, and there is something that just feels like "home" when you watch Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years.

My son was looking for more episodes when the two episodes we were able to screen were finished - I know he can't wait until the first six episodes are released on March 4th to Paramount+!
