Are you ready to go back under the sea to Bikini Bottom?  SpongeBob Squarepants, everyone's favorite pineapple dwelling sea creature, and his best buddies are on an on new adventure in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.  When SpongeBob's pet snail, Gary, goes missing it's going to take all of Bikini Bottom working together to help find him.  I got a sneak peek at this trailer back in 2019 on the Paramount lot as part of The Geekly Retreat, and have been excited ever since.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run Movie Review

If you're familiar with SpongeBob Squarepants on Nickelodeon, you will instantly recognize you favorite friends in the film.  Nothing much has changed in Bikini Bottom as SpongeBob and Squidward are working at the Krusty Krab and Plankton is still scheming to get his hands on the Krabby Patty recipe.  When Plankton realizes that it really may have been SpongeBob all these years inadvertently foiling his plans, he seeks to get rid of SpongeBob once and for all.  After the "snailnapping" of Gary, SpongeBob and Patrick head off on a quest to the Lost City of Atlantic City.  Their journey is full of so many twists and turns and laughs along the way.

Overall, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run is an enjoyable movie for your kids.  My six-year old had a number of "laugh out loud" moments, while some of them were more eye roll moments for me.  If you know SpongeBob humor, you know what I mean.  Kids find a lot of humor in the physical comedy and silly, nonsensical jokes.  In fact, there is one sequence in the movie where SpongeBob and Patrick find themselves in an old western town talking to the burning sage bush played by Keanu Reeves and witness to a Zombie musical performance led by none other than Snoop Dogg.  That whole scene left me scratching my head, but my kids were absolutely rolling on the floor.  This will be one of those movies that kids enjoy more than the parents.

Check out my favorite quotes from The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run!

One recurring theme that has always been a part of SpongeBob is the power of friendship and that continues to be true in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.  When SpongeBob and Patrick find themselves in big trouble with seemingly no way out, it's the crew from Bikini Bottom who comes to the rescue and it's the lessons of friendship that turn the tide on King Poseidon.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run begins streaming on the new Paramount+ and will be available on premium video on demand on March 4th!  Tune in to check it out with your kids!

Thanks to Paramount for the chance to screen this movie ahead of its release!
