Big Shot - Pilot Episode Review
There's a lot to love about this new show. In the opening minutes, you meet Coach Korn - an uber successful basketball coach at Wisconsin. But after his very public fall from grace, he finds himself sidelined from Division 1 Men's Basketball and instead on the sidelines of a private high school girls basketball team. Korn's tough, win-at-all costs attitude doesn't mesh with teenage girls, but he may find that he has something to learn from them and about himself, just like the girls can learn from him.

John Stamos stars in show and I'm delighted to see Uncle Jesse back in action. It's no surprise to see him pairing up with Disney+ as he is a huge Disney fan himself. He is believable, passionate, and good looking as ever in this role! I was also delighted to see one of my favorites, Yvette Nicole Brown, in the show as well. I had the chance to meet and talk with her at The Geekly Retreat in 2019 where her live-action adaptation of Lady and The Tramp was launching the new streaming service. You can also find her as the host of The Big Fib on Disney+! She is such a charming individual and her charm and fire come through in everything she does.

But these two powerhouses aren't the only stars. The young actresses who star on the basketball team do a great job showcasing the ups and downs of life on teen sports team. In the first episode, I wanted to stand up and applaud the young lady who stands up to Coach Korn when he called her out in front of the team. She didn't do it in front of her peers, but she found her time and wasn't afraid to speak up to him in private and share how his words had impacted her. Bravo. It's that kind of positive messaging that makes this a great choice for families to watch together. I've been saying for some time that I feel like good family series, like the TGIF shows that I grew up watching on ABC, but that spot is quickly being filled with some good quality family programming on Disney+!
About Big Shot (From Disney+)
After getting ousted from the NCAA, a men’s basketball coach is given a chance for redemption with a coaching position at an elite private high school. He soon learns that the teenage players require empathy and vulnerability — foreign concepts for the stoic Coach Korn (John Stamos). By learning how to connect with his players, Marvyn starts to grow into the person he’s always hoped to be. The girls learn to take themselves more seriously, finding their footing both on and off the court.
