From Cradle to Stage - Celebrating Rock Star Moms on Paramount+

Ever wonder how the rock stars we love became the stars we know?  Behind every rock star is a rock star mom and the new series, From Cradle to Stage on Paramount+, follows the journey and celebrates the work these influential women on the lives of their children.  This six episode series from David Grohl and his mother, Virginia Hanlon Grohl, debuts May 6th on Paramount+.

From Cradle to Stage is a six episode series and each episode features a famous musician and his or her mom.  I love the music of Miranda Lambert so I started with her episode to get a taste for the series.  The episodes will release one each week beginning on May 6th withe Dan and Christine Reynolds.  Here is a complete rundown of musicians (and moms) you can find on the series:

  • Dan and Christine Reynolds
  • Pharrell and Carolyn Williams
  • Miranda and Bev Lambert
  • Brandi and Teresa Carlile
  • Tom and Mary Morello
  • Geddy Lee and Mary Weinrib
There are several things the series gets right.  First - the variety of musical genres represented.  Whatever your musical taste, you'll find musicians that represent your favorites.  Second - the value of family.  The series tells the stories of the musicians, their moms, and intertwines the story of Dave and his mom as well.  It's made as a documentary combining present day interviews with archival photos and videos to paint a picture of how these stars rose to fame.  Music fans will really enjoy this series and pulling the curtain back on the lives and families of musicians.

Is From Cradle to Stage OK For Kids?

This show is really made for the adult audience.  There is nothing inappropriate for kids to tune in with their parents, but the way the show is made as a series of interviews simply won't hold the attention of young audiences.  The series is wholesome - just grown-up in it's presentation.  My kids came in while I was screening and left shortly after, not really having a context for who the musicians are or what the show was about.  If you have a teenager who is really interested in music, From Cradle to Stage may be something to watch with them!

Thank you Paramount+ for providing me with early access screeners and a press kit to share this review with my readers!

You can find From Cradle to Stage streaming on Paramount+ beginning May 6, 2021!
