What's a Wish Dragon?  Well, if you're lucky enough to come across one of these mystical, magical creatures like our main character Din, you'd be lucky enough to have all of your wildest wishes come true.  Wish Dragon is a delightful family film that is all about friendship, family, and being there for others.  

Wish Dragon - Netflix Movie Review

Wish Dragon tells a story the story of Din - a college student who misses his childhood friend and wants more than anything to reconnect with her.  When he finds a magical teapot gifted to him, he becomes the master of an all-powerful Wish Dragon with the ability to grant him any three wishes he could desire.  What would Din wish for?  Money?  Fame?  Power?  Wish Dragon shows us the meaning of friendship with a storyline that is entertaining for parents and kids alike.

It's hard to watch Wish Dragon and not draw comparisons to the familiar family hit, Aladdin.  "Peasant boy" finds himself with the ability to fulfill his wildest dreams and wishes with the rub of a lamp. . .eh, teapot.  The magical sidekick is humorous, sarcastic, and really steals the show.  What's different?  No big musical numbers, and no real romance.  Friendship is the name of the game in this film!

Viewers won't be able to stop themselves from falling in love with the Wish Dragon, Long.  He is funny, charming and charismatic.  Watching him learn about life in the 21st century is hilarious.  Long sitting in traffic is the very reason I don't drive around Washington D.C.  And the scene where he drinks from a toilet (I mean a bidet looks like a water fountain, right???) left both my son and I cracking up.  Din is absolutely relatable as a pure-of-heart soul who is awkward, funny, and loving.  

At the end of this movie, the only thing you'll be wishing for is more!  And viewers will be happy to know that, at least in my opinion, the ending of this movie leaves a sequel option as a possibility.  Wish Dragon releases to Netflix on June 11, 2021.
