Nightbooks Key Art - Image from Netflix |
Just in time for the upcoming Halloween season, Netflix is releasing a new scary movie, Nightbooks, aimed at young adults. Scary movies are always popular with my kids, but I think I may need to screen this one first before letting my boys watch with me - it looks like it may even make me jump a little! Check out the trailer for Netflix's Nightbooks below:
I think this movie looks like it will tell an amazingly inventive story of these two kids trying to escape the witch holding them captive. The creatures and scenery already strike me as beautifully whimsical and serve to really increase the fear element in the film. Alex played by Winslow Fegley (from Disney's Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made and younger brother of Oakes Fegley from The War With Grandpa) captivated me in the trailer and I think will do an amazing job as the young lead.
I can't wait to check out this film. Regardless of whether or not it will be too scary for my little ones, I can already tell it's going to one I want to watch!
About Nightbooks (From Netflix)
Alex (Winslow Fegley) is a creative boy with a strong passion for writing scary stories. But when he's labeled weird and rejected for what he likes, he swears he'll never write again. That’s when an evil witch (Krysten Ritter), captures him in her magical apartment in New York City and demands that he tell her a new tale every night if he wants to stay alive. Trapped inside with Lenore, the witch’s spiteful cat watching his every move, Alex meets Yasmin (Lidya Jewett), another young prisoner who has learned how to survive the witch's wicked whims. With Yasmin’s help, Alex must learn to embrace what makes him unique — his love for scary stories — and rewrite his own destiny to break them free.
