Disney Channel shared a brand new Halloween movie with viewers on October 1 - Under Wraps.  If you missed it on Disney Channel, you'll be happy to know that Under Wraps is now streaming on Disney+.  We all know Disney Channel has created some fantastic original movies over the years (High School Musical, Zombies, Camp Rock, etc.), which begs the question. . .does Under Wraps live up to the big Disney expectations?

Disney's Under Wraps Movie Review

When a young scary movie fan notices something unusual being carried into his creepy neighbor's house - it sounds like an adventure is afoot!  Middle school classmates Marshall, Gilbert, and Amy team up on a class field trip learning about Egyptian history.  After hearing about a mummy that has recently gone missing, the team starts to form their own thoughts about what secret may be in their neighbor's basement.  It's safe to say that when the classmates decide to explore the basement, they get a bigger surprise than they ever could have imagined.

While most Disney Channel movies have their fair share of "cheesiness" to them, I found this one to be even more over the top than others.  Elementary school kids may enjoy the story, but older kids and teenagers will likely want to skip this one.  The storyline is very simple and immature. . .and I personally miss the fun songs that we usually get from Disney Channel originals.  There were a few funny scenes in here that had me laughing with my little guy - mostly at the Halloween carnival.  Just imagine what it would be like if a mummy was at a school carnival!  Kudos to Phil Wright, the actor who plays Hector - our mummy pal.  He perfectly portrays the "stiff," ancient character, but brings some cool dance moves to the party too.  All in all, this is not one of my favorite Disney Channel originals, but it made my first grader happy and I guess that's all that matters in the end!  This one won't scare young viewers, so you can feel free to watch with young fans looking for a Halloween treat rather than tricks.

About Disney's Under Wraps

The contemporary comedic remake of the 1997 Halloween classic “Under Wraps” is based on the original movie written by Don Rhymer. The story follows three 12-year-old friends, Marshall, Gilbert and Amy, as they happen upon and awaken a mummy, which they affectionately name Harold. Together, they must rush to return him to his resting place before midnight on Halloween. Along the way, the team narrowly escapes a nefarious group of criminals who are determined to sell the mummy to the highest bidder. When Harold is inevitably captured, Marshall, Gilbert and Amy must band together to stand up to the criminals, face their fears and rescue their new—but rather “ancient”—friend.
