The latest animated film from Netflix, Back to the Outback, releases Dec. 10, 2021 to the streaming giant and it won't disappoint audiences who have become accustomed to great family content on Netflix.  In Back to the Outback, we join several Aussie animals as they escape from their zoo habitat and go on an epic quest to return to their native home in the Australian Outback.  Stars of the film, Isla Fisher and Tim Minchin sat down to chat about their characters and the film's release in interviews that were just as warm and funny as the film itself.

Interview with Isla Fisher - Voice of Maddie

Can I just take a minute to fan girl here?  I have adored Isla Fisher for years and was thrilled for the chance to sit down and talk with her.  She was very proud of this film and highlighting the Australian landscape and wildlife.  During the film, her character, Maddie, is a brave leader who learns a lot about how family isn't always those you are related to in life.  Maddie's character is also often judged by her physical characteristics - her beauty as well as her terrifying fangs.  This creates an interesting struggle for Maddie in understanding how she sees herself versus how others see her.  Hear more from Isla Fisher as she opens up about her character and also talks about the best parts of voicing an animated character in my interview with her.

Interview with Tim Minchin - Voice of Pretty Boy

Tim Minchin is a multi-talented comedian, actor, and musician who brings the social media superstar, Pretty Boy, to life.  Pretty Boy begins the movie as a self-indulgent koala, but along the way he learns that likes from his followers isn't a replacement for love from real friends.  In talking with Minchin, it's clear that he had a lot of fun voicing Pretty Boy in Back to the Outback, but his contributions don't end there.  Minchin also wrote two original songs for the soundtrack - "Beautiful Ugly" and "Maddie's Lullaby."  Learn more about the film from Minchin as he discusses Pretty Boy, filming in a pandemic, and his musical contributions in the interview below.

About Back to the Outback (From Netflix)

Tired of being locked in a reptile house where humans gawk at them like they’re monsters, a ragtag group of Australia’s deadliest creatures plot a daring escape from their zoo to the Outback, a place where they’ll fit in without being judged for their scales and fangs. Leading the group is Maddie (Isla Fisher), a poisonous snake with a heart of gold, who bands together with a self-assured Thorny Devil lizard Zoe (Miranda Tapsell), a lovelorn hairy spider Frank (Guy Pearce), and a sensitive scorpion Nigel (Angus Imrie). But when their nemesis — Pretty Boy (Tim Minchin), a cute but obnoxious koala — unexpectedly joins their escape, Maddie and the gang have no choice but to take him with them. So begins a hair-raising and hilarious road trip across Australia, as they are pursued by a zookeeper Chaz (Eric Bana) and his adventure-seeking mini-me (Diesel La Torraca). Directed by Clare Knight and Harry Cripps, and also featuring the voices of Rachel House, Keith Urban, Celeste Barber, Wayne Knight, Lachlan Ross Power, and Jacki Weaver, BACK TO THE OUTBACK is an animated adventure that proves just because something’s different, doesn’t mean it isn’t beautiful.
