If you're a child of the 80's, you probably remember Fraggle Rock as a part of your childhood. Now, Fraggle Rock is back to share with the next generation on AppleTV+ with Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock. I loved this show as a child and was excited to introduce it to my youngest.

Jim Henson's Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock has all of the components you have come to expect from quality children's television. First, is the easy to observe - the brightly colored characters, musical numbers, and laughs. Under the surface though Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock reinforces some great life lessons throughout the episodes. For example, the first episode takes a look at what it means to be brave and to be a good friend. Perhaps one of my favorite lessons was in episode 3 where Mokey gets stuck in an echo chamber. The echo chamber simply echoes back what she is saying and she talks about how much she wanted to be right that it first felt good to be in the echo chamber and hear what she was saying over and over again, but then she realized she was stuck and couldn't get out since there was nothing else in there but her own feelings. As Mokey says, "maybe there is a time for feelings and a time for facts." Uh. . .there's a good life lesson for kids AND adults!

Doc and Sprocket are two other important characters who live in "outer space" - just on the other side of the wall beyond Fraggle Rock. Uncle Traveling Matt explores the world of outer space and then sends messages and artifacts back to the Fraggles through Doc's house. Many of these overlapping interactions with life in "outer space" have an environmental focus. In episode 4, The Glow, the show opens talking about picking up trash and the impact of pollution on our planet. Recycling, water conservation, and finding simple solutions to what seem like big problems are all part of the narative.
