Marmaduke - Netflix Family Movie Review

New on Netflix, Marmaduke is an animated family comedy about a loveable, albeit a bit wild, pet who emBARKS on the "dog eat dog world" of dog shows.  After a video of his antics goes viral, he catches the eye of a world renowned dog trainer and his family is more than happy to have him learn some new tricks from the best in the business.  Marmaduke doesn't make it easy. . .but he certainly makes it fun!

Kids will enjoy this film for a lot of reasons, but the physical laughs stand out to me as some of the funniest moments.  Flying through the air, falling out of a tree, running in circles - Marmaduke does it all. There is a scene that is also pretty amusing as Marmaduke overindulges at the buffet before his first show and unleashes a cloud of gas on the audience.

The film isn't just fun and games though as Marmaduke does battle with some bullies on the dog show circuit who seek to put him down with nicknames like "fleabag" and "the not-so-great Dane" and "Scooby-Poo."  The name calling even extends to Marmaduke's family as the kids struggle with other people's opinions of Marmaduke.  But with a little help from a friend and some positive self-talk, Marmaduke sees himself as a champion and proves to others what is meant by a real champion.

Marmaduke releases on Netflix May 6, 2022 and is an animated movie the family can really sit down and enjoy together!
