Brotherly love??  It's complicated sometimes, right?

In Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules the Heffley brothers relationship is put to the test.  As Rowley says, "I'm glad I'm an only child cause this brother stuff is complicated."  My kids are big fans of the books and enjoyed the first animated Diary of Wimpy Kid movie on Disney+, so we were excited to see the next installment brought back to the small screen!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules begins with the Heffley parents heading out of town to celebrate their anniversary.  What could go wrong?  Rodrick, like every teenage boy, immediately thinks "party time," while Greg is just thrilled that his big brother is including him in the plans.  Greg even gets to invite his friend Rowley - who is as naive as ever! After Rodrick tricks Greg as the party begins, a battle ensues between the brothers as they battle back and forth with one another.  The two blackmail each other with secrets until everything comes crashing down.

I thought this movie was a great follow-up to the first. . .in fact, I think I enjoyed it more than the original.  Watching it with my middle son, I could see his special connection to Greg as he wanted so desperately to be a party of his brother's life and finds himself getting hurt more than once.  Just like readers have found in the books over the years, there is a lot that kids can connect with in these films and Disney+ does a nice job of keeping the story at a kid-friendly length of about an hour.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules is now streaming on Disney+

About Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules (From Disney+)

“Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules,” an all-new animated movie based on the second book in Jeff Kinney’s wildly popular book series, comes exclusively to Disney+ December 2, 2022. The riotous antics of angst-ridden, disaster prone, middle school student Greg Heffley continue in “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules,” focusing this time around on his complicated relationship with older brother Rodrick. A spikey-haired high school student, Rodrick is lazy and undisciplined, and spends way too much time practicing with his rock band, Löded Diper. While he loves to torment Greg, he ultimately has a deep affection for his younger brother. Directed by Luke Cormican (“Teen Titans Go!) and written and produced by Jeff Kinney, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules” features the voices of Brady Noon (“The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers”), Ethan William Childress (“mixed-ish”), Edward Asner (“Up”), Chris Diamantopoulos (“Silicon Valley”), Erica Cerra (“Power Rangers”), and Hunter Dillon (“Deadpool 2”). “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules,” features the original song, “Can You Smell Us Now,” written and produced by Jon Levine, with lyrics by Jeff Kinney, and performed by Jimmy Tatro.
